I’m going nowhere – and you can’t make me (yet)!

The Government announced on 10 March an extension to both the residential and commercial eviction bans.

A moratorium on evictions was introduced last year to support tenants during the Covid-19 pandemic. It provided security for those who would face losing their homes and for business owners that might otherwise have lost their premises.

The recent update confirms that the residential eviction ban will remain in place until at least the 31st May 2021. This extension offers further security to residential tenants and helps prevent people from losing their homes before June, at the earliest.

The commercial eviction ban has been further extended until 30th June 2021, preventing commercial rent arrears recovery, forfeiture of lease, statutory demands and winding up petitions in this period. This extension provides a lifeline for businesses which have been unable to trade for months, particularly those in the hospitality sector.
