On 13 May 2020 the Government updated it previous guidance on house moves during the pandemic to make it clear that people who wish to move home can do so, provided it is done safely (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/government-advice-on-home-moving-during-the-coronavirus-covid-19-outbreak). The new guidance aims to relax its previous advice, thereby facilitating the viewing and marketing of homes. It is seen as a further attempt to boost the economy and enable those whose proposed sales and / or purchases had been impacted by the lockdown measures to move forward.
Estate agents are now permitted to visit your home for the purpose of taking photos or videos, which will form a prospective purchaser’s initial ‘virtual’ tour. Open House viewings are not permitted and it is recommended that any residents of the home vacate for the period of a physical viewing by prospective purchasers or tenants in order to minimize contact with persons not in your household. Everyone involved in the moving process must follow social distancing to minimize the spread of the virus,.
Although the revised guidance is by no means a return to ‘business as normal’, it will be of real advantage to people wanting to move or indeed needing to move home for reason of their employment, schooling or even the breakdown of a relationship.
